THE ODD COUPLE
Our summer production, Neil Simon’s “The Odd Couple”
will be presented at our theater on Friday and Saturday, July 31 and August
1, 7, and 8, at 8:00p.m. The comedy features Bob Copplestone as the irksome
Felix Unger, and Michael Wilkes as the slovenly Oscar Madison. Ed Dunkle,
Bob Pralle, Jake Christiansen and Nathan Strong appear as the boys’ poker
buddies, and Susan Pohl and Patty Eischen assume the roles of the bubbly
Pigeon sisters. Carol Light is director, assisted by Jane O’Meara, with
Willie Mork as producer. Tickets are available at Black’s or at the door.
VILLAGE PLAYERS DO THE CHICKEN BARBECUE
Once again this year, the Village Players have been
asked to serve the Chicken Barbecue at the Huggins Hospital Street Fair.
This is a great opportunity for us to provide community service and wear
our VP t-shirts and let people know that we are an organization that is
valuable to the community in many ways. Since we are asking the community
to support us, it is very important that we be willing to support the community.
But, in order to do this we will need help from you, the members. The barbecue
will be held on Saturday, August 8, 1998 and we need volunteers to represent
the Village Players in this very important public relations opportunity.
If you can help with the cooking in the afternoon or if you can help with
serving later in the day, please call Michael Wilkes at 569-4814 or Carol
Bense at 569-1396. We need lots of help, and it's actually lots of fun
to do.
OPEN HOUSE
We will be opening the public phase of our fund-raising
campaign with an open house at the theater on Glendon Street on Saturday,
July 25th, 1998 from 2pm to 5pm. We are hoping that many of our members
will be able to be at the theater at that time to talk with the public
and show people around our building. We are hoping that many people who
have never been to our shows, will come in to see what's happening on Glendon
Street, and maybe join in to help us make this happen. In conjunction with
this event, the Granite State News will be publishing a big article on
The Village Players and our building, so we expect this publicity will
bring quite a few folks in to see us.
There will be a contest with a prize valued at
$50.00 for the "Oddest Couple" and we are hoping people will come in
costumes that are clever and original. The people in attendance will
vote on the contestants at 4:00pm. There will also be drawings throughout
the afternoon for free tickets to "The Odd Couple." Light refreshments
will be served.
Air Conditioning Up and Running
Thanks to the efforts of Don Hughes and others, our new air conditioning
system is up and running! Two units handle the main hall using the existing
blower units, and a third cools the makeup room, refreshment area, and
the green room. Now we will be comfortable during the summer months.
Raked Floor Slated for January
Due to the need to iron out details, and everyone’s
busy schedule, it was decided to postpone construction of the raked floor
until next winter. More workers will be available, and there will be more
time before the spring show to complete the project. If you would like
to help with this or any other building project, please contact Corky at
569-5726.
No Sex Please, We’re British at Hackmatack
The hilarious farce, No Sex Please, We’re British will be performed at
the Hackmatack Theater in Berwick, Maine from August 25 through September
5. We had a lot of fun doing this show last summer, and this is an opportunity
to see another production. Cal 207-698-1807 for information.
